SATICON 1:45 Ayr Back at 2.4 or more
I'm not 100% convinced that this small field will suit Saticon, but if you leave out his last run at Aintree, he should be odds on to win this on his previous form at Kempton and Cheltenham and is clearly excellent value at 6/4 plus. Giorgio Quercus has been disappointing and it may be significant that he's won both his starts on right-handed tracks, whereas going left-handed his form reads 5/PU/10 - and he was a long way behind Saticon at Cheltenham. Marc Aurele has achieved very little to date and even getting weight from Saticon, has plenty to find.
Having backed I'msingingtheblues in the Arkle, I was disappointed by his lacklustre showing and he gave me the impression he'd had enough for the season and needs a break. Given he's been kept to 2M so far throughout his career over hurdles and fences, there also has to be a doubt about him over this longer trip, and his trainer has an oddly consistent record in this race - his last five runners have all finished second and most have been a short price. Deep Purple showed last time at Aintree that he handles this trip well and that his record of winning only on r-h tracks is probably coincidence - it's a marginal decision whether backing him is a better bet than laying the favourite here.
