Triple Champion Hurdle winning jockey Steve Smith Eccles previews the action.

At Sedgefield in the 12.50 I quite like the look of Logans Run, trained by Howard Johnson, a five year old who shaped nicely on his chasing introduction at Haydock nineteen days ago when fourth against some seasoned performers. His jumping that day was more than adequate and as he looked sure to improve, as that was his first run since April, he looks to be the one to beat. Main danger Chief Dan George was a decent hurdler who raced in top company last season without success and would be a big threat if he can reproduce that form over fences on his chasing debut but could need the run after 215 days off the course.

In the 2.50 I am thinking of opposing favourite Delightfully who only won a seller over course and distance last time out as she now steps back up in to handicap company. Gallileo Figaro travels up from Newmarket for trainer Neil King and she was a first time out winner at Folkestone last season though she failed to build on that in her next two runs. She showed signs of returning to form after a six month break when finishing mid-division in a two mile six handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter just over three weeks ago, though after making the running she tired three out that day. She has consequently slipped down the handicap and if ridden with a bit more restraint over this shorter trip should go close. With jockey Alex Merriam good value for the seven pound claim and the added intrigue of a first time tongue strap, she should go well this afternoon.

The most valuable race of the day is the 3.00 at Lingfield where Jardin De Vienne could be the value call. This ex-French performer has some deep ground form over the channel which could come to the fore here and his latest runs for his new yard have started to show some promise, finishing mid -ivision in a couple of competitive handicaps last month. He is slipping down the weights and looks to have a solid each way chance in this open looking race.
