Newmarket Racing Find out what top pro-punter Alan Potts is backing or laying today.
Savarain has finished second in two valuable 12F handicaps at Ascot and Goodwood and the merit of those performances is confirmed by the fast times he has run in both races. He's had a break to recover from those efforts (and presumably to avoid the soft ground that has prevailed since Goodwood), we know he's at home on fast ground and the step up in trip looks sure to suit him. He was beaten on a previous try in Listed company over 11F at Goodwood back in May, but even then he ran a decent time and was just short of speed at that trip. Main rival The Betchworth Kid also has good handicap form, but probably needs softer ground and is likely to be outpaced here. WINGWALKER 3:45 Newmarket Lay at 2.0 or less A good example of hype, which might well be justified, but Wingwalker still has to prove he's up to this class and he faces much stiffer opposition here than in his two wins to date. He looked good at Sandown, escaping from a pocket in the final furlong to go clear in the last 100 yards, but that race could hardly have gone better for him, with a good pace to help his rider settle him and provide tiring rivals to pass at the end. He's been pretty keen in both his races and that is surely going to find him out at some point, especially if he finds himself in a slowly run race, which this might well be today. With talk of the Dewhurst for his next run, his reputation is the main reason he's odds on and I'd rather be a layer at that price.
