Friday Racing Find out what one of the UK's top pro-punters is backing or laying today.
I recommended Benhego when he was touched off at Yarmouth two starts back, but the filly that beat him there has won again since and that form looks solid. Benhego went on to win very easily at Great Leighs, with his rivals spread out all over Essex, and even with a 6lb penalty here he still looks well handicapped on those last two runs - this will certainly be his last chance to appear in a 0-70 class race and, thanks to the generous weight for age allowance, he has only 9st 1lb to carry. Main rival Let It Be is on a roll, but has a big weight and is less likely to be suited by conditions, with more rain forecast before this race.
Cave Lion is a progressive 3-y-old and he won well over C+D eleven days ago, drawing clear after getting a good lead at a decent pace. His problem here, apart form a 6lb penalty, is that there's no obvious front runner in the field and Cave Lion is likely to find himself making his own pace. When he did that previously at Sandown he ran too freely and didn't last home - his rider this evening is plainly a competent apprentice, but a horse that was too strong for Jimmy Fortune doesn't make much appeal at such a short price under the circumstances. Grand Vizier has an excellent record on Polytrack and looks the one most likely to run down Cave Lion if the favourite fails to settle.
