Friday Review (04/07/08)

Racing expert Dale McKeown gives an overview of the day's top equine action.

Dale McKeownQuoted at 33/1 for next years 2000 Guineas before he even stepped foot on to a racetrack, Zacinto’s tall reputation was enhanced with a facile victory over the more experienced Seminole. Racing in the familiar pink, green and white of Prince Khallad Abdullah the son of Dansili powered clear of the field despite running very green, a race won in the past by Sir Michael Stoute with his big horses in 2000 and 2001, he is well regarded.

In the very next race Henry Cecil completed a double for Prince Khallad Abdullah with Many Volumes in the feature William Ewart Properties Gala Stakes. Tracking the leaders on the fence the Ted Durcan ridden 4 yr old picked up pace-setter Kandidate running out a comfortable winner from the staying on Bushman.

Jimmy Fortune at his tactical brilliance got first run on Light The Fire and although running on empty nearing the line the Brian Meehan trained juvenile had enough to repel the charging April Pride.

Crimson Fern overcame a troubled trip to win the opener comfortably from the revitalised Tabaret, as you can imagine with the trailblazer Strike Up The Band in the line up a sprint run at a decent gallop setting it up nicely for a closer.

Kaateb who is sometimes a little tricky got an absolute cracker of a ride from Richard Hills to make all the running of the twelve furlong Helical Bar Handicap. Settling on the lead the first time visored Kaateb quickened up well staying on strongly as another first time visored Gulf Express made headway into second.

Frankie Dettori on Judgethemoment believe it or not muscles Jimmy Fortune and Spring Dream off the pot, having made all the running on Judgethemoment Frankie needed all his strength to fend off Swingkeel and Alnwick on the outside and Spring Dream on the inside, still with all to play for as the first two past the post who were only split by a head, bumped, the stewards left the result unaltered after an inquiry.
