Find out what top pro-punter Alan Potts is backing or laying today.

Alan PottsPUNJABI 4:40 Newmarket Lay at 2.9 or less

Trainer Nicky Henderson has somehow acquired a reputation as a trainer to note when he runs one on the flat, but the figures don't really match up as his strike rate over the last five years is just 8% with only six winners to his name. Punjabi was distinctly ordinary on the flat before Henderson turned him into a top class hurdler, but there's no guarantee that the improvement will transfer betwen codes, or that he'll prove effective at this trip. His sire, Komaite, is best known for sprinters and AW regulars, not middle distance handicappers and he doesn't usually produce lovers of fast ground either. In a strong field with Prince Sabaah offering solid recent form and Mad Rush plenty of potential, Punjabi looks vulnerable to me.

PALACE MOON 9:00 Pontefract Lay at 2.0 or less

There's no denying Palace Moon showed plenty of promise on debut despite obvious signs of his inexperience, but his price here is a prime example of hype in action. The bare form of that Salisbury race is very ordinary - the third was well beaten in a handicap off 56 next time and the fifth (5L behind Palace Moon then) could only manage 12th of 13 in a similar maiden there last night. Palace Moon weaved around under pressure and he also showed an action that suggest to me he won't be entirely at home on the faster ground he'll encounter at Pontefract. The opposition lacks a standout, so Palace Moon may well be good enough, but there's no way he's an odds on shot on form.
