HIGHLAND LEGACY 3:40 Ripon Lay at 2.7 or less

Highland Legacy improved last season as his stamina was brought into play, winning a pair of 2m handicaps in October at Newbury and Nottingham. A feature of both races was the time it took him to get into top gear and the fact that he hung right once in front in the closing stages. He'd been beaten previously at Ripon and I'm not certain this right-handed track with it's minor undulations in the straight (rather like the ridges of a ploughed field - quite unique and worth walking the course to experience if you visit Ripon) is ideal for him. Add in the 9lbs rise since his last win and the fact that he won't be 100% as he's being aimed at the Chester Cup and he's vulnerable today.

CENTENNIAL 4:30 Sandown Lay at 2.5 or less

Centennial won a couple of races on good to firm last year before being sent to France, where he finished a well beaten second in a small field Group 3 over a mile. I don't reckon he beat anything of note that day and in four starts, he's yet to run a time anywhere near quick enough to suggest he's up to winning in Group company. His price here is another example of the over-reaction to the bright start made by the Gosden stable - the yard has had several fancied runners in this race in recent years without success and I'm happy to bet on that pattern repeating this afternoon.
