Rotherham vs. Blackpool

A former bookie breaks ranks to reveal today’s best bets.

Sports TraderRotherham take on Blackpool this evening in League One.

The Yorkshire club is propping up the division on just 31 points having been deducted 10 points earlier in the season. This deduction was for having taken a CVA (Company Voluntary Agreement) which enabled the club to reduce its debts. Tonight’s opponents, Blackpool, meanwhile are in 6th place just 2 points outside a promotion play off place.

Rotherham can be backed at 9/4 with the bookies while Blackpool are available at 6/5 with the draw at 23/10.

These two sides have only played each other three times in recent years with Rotherham winning twice and drawing once. Last season Rotherham thrashed Blackpool 4-0 in this fixture. On that occasion Rotherham were just 10/11 with Blackpool available at 5/2.

Blackpool haven’t scored against Rotherham in three matches, yet in the league this season they are performing exceptionally well on their travels, and if the division was purely based on away performances they would be in joint second place. In total they have won 9 of their 19 games away from home drawing a further 5 games and scoring 26 goals in the process - only four sides have scored more goals away from home. They have only conceded 19 times in those 19 games - the fourth best record in the division.

9 of Blackpool’s 19 away games have seen ‘over 2.5 goal’ matches but recently it has only been 2 from 5. Blackpool have only lost 2 of their last 10 away games. They have beaten Bradford (20th) 1-3, Yeovil (4th) 1-0, Oldham (5th) 0-1, and Leyton Orient (17th) 0-1 and drawn 1-1 with Nottingham and 2-2 with Gillingham (19th) in their six most recent away encounters.

Rotherham have only won 6 games at home this term, drawing a further 4 and losing 8 in total. They have scored an excellent 31 times in front of their own fans - that‘s the 5th best home record in the league, while they have conceded 30 times - the second worst in the league.

Rotherham have only won two of their last ten home matches against Bradford (20th) 5-1 and Yeovil (4th) 3-2. They have lost four of their last five home matches to Port Vale (11th) 1-5, Swansea 1-2, Huddersfield (14th) 2-3, and Chesterfield (21st) 0-1.

11 of Rotherham’s 18 home games have seen matches involving 3 goals or more, and recently 4 of their last 5 have been very high scoring games. Rotherham midfielder Michael Keane may return to action as might fellow midfielder Martin Woods. Blackpool welcome back Shaun Barker but Latvian Kaspars Gorkss remains on international duty.

Rotherham are in bottom place but without those 10 deducted points they would only be in 20th place at best. Blackpool meanwhile are a team in form away from home. I expect plenty of goalmouth action and am keen to be with goals this evening. I am looking to take 2.2 on over 2.5 goals, and will be backing Blackpool at 2.3 to win the game.
