New Exchange WBX is finally ready to launch
Racing Post - 2006-10-25

THE long-awaited launch of World Bet Exchange will be on November 25, it was announced yesterday, writes Paul Eacott.

WBX was originally scheduled to go live in February, and it is rumoured that a launch this month had to be postponed due to technical problems.

Chief executive Malcolm Gray said the exchange would offer a serious alternative to Betfair's dominance.

"In an industry where the current market leader has a virtual monopoly, we believe the arrival of WBX will put every exchange player back in control," he said. "We have in place a number of exciting new developments that will benefit punters."

He added: "We will continually seek to offer a vibrant, exciting and innovative alternative to Betfair, and we hope this will promote healthy rivalry."

WBX will today announce details of "a unique racing sponsorship initiative", likely to be a £1 million bonus linking three of Britain's top hurdle races - Newcastle's Fighting Fifth Hurdle on WBX's launch day, the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton and the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.
